WHAT IS A CSA?

CSA (Community supported Agriculture) is essentially a partnership between producer and consumer, where members may sign up to purchase a share of the current season’s harvest up front, guaranteeing the quality and quantity of produce reaped and sown.

Each week, members receive a box teaming with the freshest local and seasonal organic produce available.

Our Vision

While we do consider ourselves a CSA program, we want to ensure that everyone is able to benefit from this service. To accommodate this, we allow monthly payment options, as well as various box sizes, and temporary service periods for our seasonal visitors to the South Okanagan.

In addition, during parts of the season when there are crops available that we just don’t grow here on our farm, we out source to other local organic suppliers in order to supply you with the widest range possible of tantalizing treats that this area has to offer.

Because our aim is to supply boxes year round, during the off seasons, we will continue to provide as much of our own and other local & BC grown produce as possible. But…we do live in Canada, and we want our boxes to continue to be diverse, so we also have some reputable & sustainable non-domestic organic suppliers to get us through those winter months. You will be informed as to the source of each item every week.

Web Interface

We are using a new web-based software program called Farmigo (www.farmigo.com) to deliver a great user experience and simplify the organization of our CSA.  This program allows members to follow and manage their own CSA accounts.  As well, members will now receive updates, bag contents, recipes, preparation, and conservation tips through this system.  Members will also have access to our webstore, and will be able to add additional items to their delivery at their convience.

Note: web store closes 6 days prior to delivery to process orders

Payments

The Farmigo payment system works by maintaining user account balances.  Your account balance will now mean “money in the CSA bank”, and will be debited the day following your delivery day or after web-store purchases.   It is the users responsibility to maintain a positive account balance.  Automatic email notifications will be sent to you if your account falls below $20.00.  If the account has not been replenished within a week, members will receive another “friendly reminder”.  If still no payment is received, deliveries will be suspended until payment has been made.

By joining our CSA program, you agree to read and respond to all email alerts concerning billing information.

We accept payment via PayPal, Credit Card, and Cheque.  Members have the choice of utilizing the “auto-pay” option, or managing their account balance manually.

With “auto-pay”, the system automatically replenishes your account with an amount previously agreed upon, as soon as that account’s balance falls below $20.  We encourage members to take advantage of this option, so as not to risk the possibility of for-going a delivery because life is busy.  You will receive a notification of the up-coming charge, 3 days before it is processed.

You may also opt to make manual payments, and will receive email alerts when it is time to do so.

The minimum payment to initialize and replenish accounts is $100.00

We also offer bonuses for members who make larger payments, as this affords us, the farmers, to help finance the cost of growing the produce for you, the members.

With a $500.00 payment, members will receive a 5% bonus, making your account balance $525.00

With a $1000.00 payment, members will receive a 10% bonus, making your account balance $1100.00

These bonuses may be used for making purchases from our web-store, or applied towards delivery payments.  If you know that you’re in for the long haul, why not receive free “fun money”?!  Its a better return on your investment than your bank account.

Cancellations

The Final Bit

By joining our CSA, you are supporting local, organic farmers, as well as our environment by reducing packaging, and lowering our carbon footprint.  In return you will receive fresh, organic, “real” produce, meaning that yes, your greens may have the occasional hole (or two), and yes you may receive the two legged “carrot man” in your bag, and yes, there may still be dirt in the roots (makes it taste even better) and some things are better preserved un-washed.  We believe that nutritious food comes in all shapes and sizes, and we don’t believe in discriminating against produce that would otherwise be deemed “imperfect” for the grocery store.  So embrace the little critter that may have just re-located to your neck of the woods via your produce bag, and know that his existance there means that your food was grown as naturally as possible.

Cheers, and welcome to better health and convenience!
