Dunham & Froese is Now Covert Farms Family Estate
New Name and New look Reflect Farm and New Ownership
Oliver’s Dunham & Froese Estate Winery is now named Covert Farms Family Estate. The winery, founded in 2005 by partnering couples Gene & Shelly Covert and Kirby & Crystal Froese, changes names as the Froese family relocates to Saskatchewan, and the Coverts assume full ownership. Other than the name change, the winery, located at the foot of the iconic McIntyre Bluff, remains the same wonderful destination for its organic wines, fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and country market.

The winery is located on the same grounds as the 600-acre Covert Farms Organics, which has been in operation by the Covert family since 1959. Covert Farms has grown to become a leader in quality fruit and vegetable production in the Okanagan for more than 50 years, and is today a major shipper of fresh field tomatoes, sweet onions, sweet corn, muskmelons and table grapes.
When it comes to wine, the Coverts launched the first wines from Dunham & Froese with their friends Crystal and Kirby Froese in 2005. Those early wines were well received and the winery was named “Best New Winery to Watch for” in 2008 by the Okanagan Wine Festival Society. In 2011, when their business partners made a move to Moose Jaw, it signaled to Gene and Shelly that it was time for them to bring their winery into the whole farm, and include it with their history, which they proudly share.
Today, Covert Farms wines are a showcase for organic wines that are made from a cool, windswept mountain site. The wines display a purity of fruit and a crisp, natural acidity that is coveted by other growers. Crafting wines that are 100% estate grown produces terroir-focused artisan wines of exceptional quality.
The winery is one facet of the large organic farm and country market that features the wine shop, as well as specialty coffees and gourmet lunches, muffins and ice cream, in season organic produce fresh from the farm, in the setting of beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, a patio and playground. Within the country market wine lovers will find organically-grown wines that include Pinot Blanc and Rosé, as well as the proprietary blends The Bluff, Stoneface, MDC and Amicitia. These wines sport the new name and labels, that picture the night hawk and McIntyre Bluff, two of the location’s most unique features.
Those who love recreation dually appreciate the location of Covert Farms, as it is positioned at the gateway to the iconic Okanagan Landmark, McIntyre Bluff, and makes a great place to picnic after a bike ride or hike.
